ORION CHARTERS - LING COD FISHING

If you want to fish water that consistently produces the largest Ling Cod in the World, to sport charter anglers, then fish the Gulf of Alaska out of Valdez.  ORION CHARTERS specializes in long range offshore Gulf of Alaska fishing trips.   ORION CHARTERS has caught many nice Ling Cod, including the previous State Record (from 2001 to 2003) and IGFA All-tackle World Record fish (click to see World Record Certificate) of 76.6#.

Like big Halibut, monster Ling Cod grow into huge size by living in specific areas that are inaccessible, undiscovered, or seldomly fished by commercial longline boats or other charter boats.

Ling Cod are often caught randomly while halibut fishing however there are certain areas and techniques that had produced many of our largest ling cod catches.

Fish weighing 55# qualify for an Alaska Trophy Certificate Award.  There was a 35" minimum size limit on Ling Cod in Alaska.

053001LC attack2.JPG (61528 bytes)    5/30/2001 Offshore in the Gulf of Alaska the Ling Cod are very aggressive.  The pictures to the left shows a Yellow-eyed Rockfish of about 15# being hit by a Ling Cod of about 50#.  Note the 16/0 circle hook in the yellow-eyed Rockfish mouth. Lots of times these Ling Cod will not release the rockfish that they hit and can be carefully landed.  The picture to the right sows a halibut of about 10# being hit by an approximately 40# Ling Cod.
